“The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after a man died in the custody of the Edmonton Police Service.
Police responded to a report that a man with a weapon had threatened another resident at an apartment building on 103A Avenue and 95 Street at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
When police arrived, they found a 60-year-old man barricaded in an apartment suite.
Officers obtained a search warrant and arrested the man after a confrontation.
While being treated on scene by tactical emergency medical services, the man suffered a medical event.
He was taken to hospital where he was declared dead.
ASIRT is tasked with investigating any incident involving Alberta law enforcement officers that involves serious injury or death.”
