On April 1st, the Carbon Tax will be eliminated, and the HST will be reduced.


From the Utility and Review Board of Nova Scotia:
The federal fuel tax, also known as the “carbon tax,” will be abolished on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

The government of Nova Scotia will also lower the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) from 15% to 14% on the same day.
Both gasoline and diesel oil final pump prices include HST.
Crucial details for this week:

  • At midnight tonight, March 27, the Board will release the usual weekly gasoline and diesel oil price schedule.
  • Effective at midnight on Monday, March 31, 2025, a second price schedule will be released.
    The reductions in the carbon tax and HST that go into effect on April 1st will be factored into this plan.
