Police seek assistance in identifying deceased male

Police seek assistance in identifying deceased male; enhanced image used to support investigation: The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man who died in central Edmonton in October 2024.

On Oct. 10, 2024, it was reported to police that a deceased male was located in the area of 107 Avenue and 99 Street. At this time, police do not believe that the cause of death was suspicious in nature.

The man is believed to be Indigenous or Peruvian and can be described as 20 to 30-years-old, 5’9” tall, approximately 134 lbs., with hazel eyes and black hair. He had a faded cross tattoo on his left wrist with a small scar above it.

At the time he was located, the man was wearing a black and white patterned Under Armour sweater with red draw strings and detailing, as pictured below.

Police have been unable to confirm the man’s identity using traditional methods. As such, the EPS’ Missing Persons Unit, in consultation with the EPS’ Indigenous Navigator and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, used EPS’s Digital Forensics Section to enhance a photograph of the deceased male with editing software for the purpose of identifying him.

“It’s the hope of the Missing Persons Unit that this image enhancement will assist us in finding a family member or friend who may recognize and identify this man,” says Cst. Josh Filion with the EPS’ Missing Person Unit. “This method is new to the EPS and has been coordinated with support from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and in consultation with the EPS’ Indigenous Navigator and Digital Forensics Section imaging experts. It is our hope that this tool and approach will help bring this man’s friends and family some measure of resolution.”
