Tariffs on some items going to 50%

Beginning on March 12, the president signed executive orders imposing 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminium imports into the United States, including those from Canada.

Trump said that the 25% general tariffs he had previously imposed on Canadian goods, with a lesser 10% duty on Canadian energy, could still go into effect in early March.

On Tuesday, Trudeau referred to the tariffs as “unacceptable” and stated that he was collaborating with foreign allies to provide a “firm and clear” response.

According to a White House official on Tuesday, if the planned steps go forward, the two types of tariffs will stack on top of one another, resulting in a 50% overall levy on Canadian steel and aluminium.
