Portage la Prairie RCMP charge two after police cruiser hit

On February 22, 2025 at approximately 7:40 pm, a Portage la Prairie RCMP officer was making patrols and spotted a vehicle that had been stolen out of Winnipeg with three male occupants.  The officer activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop on the Tupper Street Bridge.

Two additional police cruisers were situated on the south side of the bridge to assist, and when the suspect vehicle spotted them it sped up narrowly missing one vehicle, and crashing head on into the other police vehicle. 

The following individuals are charged:

Dana Popko, 36, from Winnipeg – 

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.00
  • Unauthorized of a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Assault Police Officer
  • Assault Police Officer with a Weapon
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor vehicle 
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine 

Neepin Moose, 30, from Winnipeg – 

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose 
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.00 
  • Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Weapon 
  • Possession of Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition 
  • Possess Firearm While Prohibited, Carry Concealed Weapon 
  • Obstruct Police Officer 
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine 

Moose also had an outstanding Warrant of Arrest from Winnipeg for Being Unlawfully at Large as well as an Apprehension Warrant from the Parole Board.

The third male suspect was released without charges at this time. One officer and two of the three suspects received medical attention for minor injuries. 

Popko and Moose were both remanded and appeared in court this week.
